Because the path to protecting and safeguarding the rights of children and young people is never done alone, between April 2021 and March 2022 we should highlight the Mapfre Foundation’s +Futuro project, which allowed our Association to support two very important areas of the lives of the children and young people we welcome: mental health and education.
In the difficult, challenging and demanding times we are experiencing with the pandemic situation and the resulting distance learning and impact on mental health, this support was decisive in being able to provide the best conditions for those we welcome.
The relevance of the project arose from the growing number of children and young people with mental health problems, with situations of school absenteeism or disruptive behaviors inside the home or school contexts. The realization of their life projects, in most cases, depends on the psychological balance achieved through specialized support, with the lack of this support being a risk factor for the development of children and young people and, consequently, their future.
The intervention strategy involved complementing the therapeutic model implemented in Novo Futuro’s houses with a system of psychological assessment and continued monitoring in terms of mental health. This strategy had a positive impact on the availability of children and young people to learn, complemented by the guarantee of pedagogical and IT resources that allowed schools to respond to requests, increasing the motivation, commitment and self-esteem of children and young people in this context.
To the Mapfre Foundation that allowed us to do more and better for those who need it most, there are not enough words to thank, but it is in the daily smiles of those we welcome that we see the results of those who really make a difference every day!
